![]() This church was built for a relatively new parish. In 1932 a temporary church had been built after a design by J.H.H. van Groenendael, in between several small hamlets. It was a small parish in what was still a rural part of Weert, but with the Van Horne barracks nearby a big new church was needed anyway. Architect A.J.N. Boosten was commissioned to design in. The St. Joseph is one of the characteristic designs by this architect. Especially the eastern part is interesting, with its round choir flanked by cylindrical towers and the asymmetrical transept with rose-windows. Other typical Boosten feautures are the flat roofs of the side-aisles, the ridges around the windows and the massive-looking tower. Next to the church is a school, which was also designed by Boosten. |
